Marcos Painter

2008/2009

Profile was provided by Andrew Thomas

Originally signed on loan from Birmingham City by Kenny Jackett, Marcos soon made the move permanent and at the same time the left back berth his own.

Marcos is a very strong tackler and tries to get forward as often as he can. His former manager at Birmingham, Steve Bruce, described him as one of the most hard working players he`d ever had the pleasure of working with, and like Kevin Austin before him, Marcos is a no nonsense honest player who always gives 100%.

Since joining the club following a loan spell from Birmingham, as one of Kenny Jackett`s last signings for the club seems to have been money well spent. Although he has played exclusively at Left Back since his arrival, Marcos also played as Centre Half at Birmingham. Although not tall, his timing is excellent and is very good in the air and strong in the tackle.

Despite being English, Marcos`s father thought that giving him an Italian Christian name would enhance his chances of gaining a contract with a Premiership club. It worked for a while too!

A 20 year old Birmingham City youth product, Marcos made his debut for the Blues in the Carling Cup game against Scunthorpe in September 2005 and went on to make his Premiership debut three months later in a 1 - 0 win over Fulham.

The Republic of Ireland U21 International then went on to make nine more appearances starting five and was brought on as a sub in four others.

The Swans have signed Painter on an initial month loan as cover for ex-Birmingham City defender Tom Williams who is out for six weeks needing a hernia operation
