Gareth has been at the Vetch since a schoolboy, another of Ron Walton's youth products, but it's only in the last couple of seasons that he's managed to work his way into the first team.
A versatile player, he's played in the problematic right back position, but is more often found in midfield, making tackles, harrying the opposition, and generally getting involved. Tremendous work rate, fearless in the tackle, but prone to picking up bookings.
In March 2001, his impressive play earned him his first U21 international call ups for Wales. The double header v. Ukraine and Armenia was Gareth's first taste of international duty. At the Vetch (March 27th) he came on in the 46th minute v Ukraine, earning his first cap. Sure to feature regularly for the Swans in the future.
