Leon Britton, a true fans favourite at the club ever since joining in 2003 following a loan spell from West Ham. Another member of the team that played against Hull to secure the club's Football League status in 2003, Leon was especially proud to have been a key member of the championship winning team, and has been involved in most of the highs and lows at the club over the last 5 and a half years. His overall attitude quickly won the fans over, as well as his skills on the ball, even if his finishing leaves a bit to be desired.

Another strong tackler, and the cliché about covering every blade of grass on the pitch seems to have been written for him. His running with the ball also causes a lot of uncertainty in defenders and midfielders all over the country.

Leon's main ambition in football is to have his hair dyed ginger so that he can look like Garry Monk, Alan Tate and Shaun McDonald.

2007/2008

2006/7 was yet another great season for Leon- probably his best yet. Signing as a central midfielder during the Brian Flynn days, Leon quickly installed himself as one of the fan's favourites, and is right up there with Lee Trundle (before his move).

Had Kris O'Leary joined Cheltenham this summer, Leon would have made himself the longest serving player in the current squad, just edging out Alan Tate, and has just signed a contract which will keep him at the club until 2010..

His burly physique, aerial power, pinpoint hanging crosses and eye for goal have made "Sniffer" Britton the folk hero that he is.

2006/2007

Despite his future seeming unclear at the start of last season, Leon showed his usual willingness to shrug his shoulders and try even harder and was soon back in the team. By the end of the season, he was a genuine contender for player of the season. Leon showed more willingness to shoot this season, and returned 4 League goals, his highest tally yet. He still needs to work on this aspect of his game though, as he seems to be more interested in providing a pass then taking the responsibility for shooting for goal.

Leon says that when he grows up he would like to be a fireman.

2005/2006

Joined on a permanent basis as Brian Flynn's first summer signing in June 2003 on a free transfer from West Ham. This followed an extremely successful 6 month loan spell where he quickly won over Swans fans with his pace, trickery and work rate. A real favourite with supporters, and a real handful for the opposition despite his diminutive stature.

Controversially not selected as a regular starter last season by Kenny Jackett, who prefers to keep him on the bench as an attacking option during games. Certainly didn't have the same impact last term that he has previously, but his attitude could never be questioned. Also scored a brave goal at Cheltenham to keep the promotion charge on track much to the delight of the travelling fans.

Leon has been given a 1 year contract, and it would seem to be a make or break season for the little midfielder.

2004/2005

Usually played in the centre of midfield, causes a genuine problem for midfielders and defenders alike. Almost impossible to dispossess on a one to one, he often finds himself marked by 2 or 3 players. Sometimes too unselfish in front of goal, he should find the net more often, but the number of times he is fouled around the penalty area has led to a number of goals for the likes of Trundle, Martinez and Robinson.

2003/2004

Became an instant hit with all Swans fans following his loan from West Ham, playing his first game away to Exeter. Really came into his own following the signings of Roberto Martinez and Lenny Johnrose. The other two have given Leon the freedom to make attacking runs. His tricky skills and electric pace make him an absolute nightmare to mark, wether as a midfielder, or as a central defender.

Totally committed in the tackle, as in all other facets of his game. Thought to have been sidelined with a broken cheekbone until the end of the season, he was back in the team in a couple of weeks, with his Zorro mask, until he decided it affected his game.

Leon has shown great loyalty to the Swans, by taking a drop from the 1st division to join the club. Widely hoped that next season that Leon will start taking more shots, and getting his name on the score sheet a few times.
